profound-gentlemen-charlotte-ncTwo non-profit leaders in Charlotte recently received some of the highest honors in the business world by being named on Forbes’ latest ‘Top 30 Under 30: Social Entrepreneurs List‘.

Mario Jovan Shaw and Jason Terrell are Charlotte transplants who started their non-profit, Profound Gentlemen, after becoming frustrated with the lack of minority teachers and leaders in the school system.

According to Forbes, “Terrell and Shaw met as roommates in 2012 while doing Teach For America and came up with the idea to cultivate mentorship opportunities for black men, from “cradle to career.” Profound Gentlemen works to provide career support for the teachers while also developing mentorship opportunities for their students, young boys of color.”

The winners of this year’s ’30 under 30′ represent some of highest achievers from around the world. “Their organizations have helped millions, and their impact wraps around the globe”. This year’s list includes 40 individuals leading 30 different social ventures (10 of them include cofounder teams), who work tirelessly to creatively solve some of the world’s toughest problems.

Congratulations Mario and Jason! Thanks for all you are doing for our city and the world!
