This weekend is going to be truly incredible! Charlotte will host some of the biggest festivals and events of the year – and we will be celebrating on of the most significant events of our history – MeckDec Day!

Here are the top 10 things happening around the Charlotte region this weekend;

#1 DrumStrong

Tomorrow is the 10th anniversary of the world famous DrumStrong – which was started right here in Charlotte!

Join celebrity artists and thousands of good people (Globally) in a unique, multicultural, musical charity event showcasing available resources that support people with cancer and those who love them – and join other Charlotteans in breaking the world record for the largest continuous drum circle in history!

It will still be located back in the beautiful pastures of Misty Meadows Farm, Weddington, NC, just 15 minutes south of Charlotte.

#2 Kenny Chesney & Old Dominion

One of the biggest country music stars in the world, who has already sold over 30 million albums worldwide is coming to Charlotte this month.

Kenny will be playing at the PNC Music Pavilion on Friday, May 20th.

#3 Crowntown Throwdown

On May 21st, the Olde Mecklenburg Brewery is going to attempt to break the world record for the largest cornhole tournatment, benefitting InReach.

The entry fee for a two-person team also includes four beer tickets, live music, lunch and a T-shirt, and the chance to hang out in a beer garden playing games all afternoon.

#4 Annual Meck Dec Day commemoration

Friday, May 20th, 2016: At 12 p.m., at the square (Trade and Tryon) Politicians and some celebrities will be giving addresses and there will be a reading of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence followed by traditional toasts with muskets and cannon fire. There will be a dedication of a new marker in Settler’s Cemetery in memory of Revolutionary War patriot Ephraim Brevard. Interpreters will mingle with the crowd and hand out Meck Dec copies while the soldiers play music and march up and down. Free.

#5 Charlotte Museum of History annual celebration

Saturday, May 21st, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Charlotte Museum of History, 3500 Shamrock Drive. Celebrate the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence and Resolves! There will be crafts for the kids, a free tour of the Hezekiah Alexander Home Site, and several city officials on hand – and there will be plenty of free cake and lemonade. Free.

#6 Sesame Street Live

From May 20th through May 22nd, your favorite puppets will be in the Queen City.

No matter where you’re from or where you’ve been, everyone is special – so join in! Elmo, Grover, Abby Cadabby, and their Sesame Street friends welcome Chamki, Grover’s friend from India, to Sesame Street. Together, they explore the universal fun of friendship and celebrate cultural similarities, from singing and dancing, to sharing cookies!

#7 Charlotte VegFest

The Charlotte VegFest is a celebration of healthy, sustainable, and compassionate eating and explores the endless benefits of vegetarian living.

The event is free to browse and will feature a variety of vegan foods, local veg restaurants and food trucks, local vendors, live music, speakers, nutritional experts, vegan cooking demonstrations, free prizes, gift bags and more!

#8 Charlotte Trivia Night at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery

Friday, May 20th, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Olde Meckenburg Brewery, join the May 20 Society and Charlotte Museum of History for trivia and prizes. Trivia is free, food and beer is not.

#9 MeckDec Day at the Ballpark with the Charlotte Knights

#10 MeckDec Day at Ramblewood Stadium with the Charlotte Independence

Saturday, May 21st, 7 p.m. Watch Charlotte’s only pro soccer team while celebrating MeckDec Day at Ramblewood Stadium as the Charlotte Independence take on FC Cincinnati.
