These NC Small Businesses Won $4.95 Million In Grants to Build Next-Gen Tech

The State of North Carolina has just awarded nearly $5 million to small business that are focused on building the next generation of technology.

“Support for early-stage technology companies pays off in better jobs, more investment, and new ways to make our state a great place to live and do business,” Governor Roy Cooper noted in a press release. “These small businesses are tackling society’s most pressing challenges in many areas, including the life sciences, defense, and clean energy. Innovative small companies drive growth and competition, keeping our economy healthy and quality of life high.”

One North Carolina Small Business Program granted funds to the following companies:

• 410 Medical, Inc., of Durham: $25,000.00 to develop a compact, military-grade version of its LifeFlow® rapid infusion device for the rapid delivery of blood, blood components, and other resuscitative fluids to improve rates of resuscitation and patient outcomes. • Accunovo Biotechnologies, Inc., of Chapel Hill: $75,000.00 to develop a diagnosis and therapy agent for improved prostate cancer management. This SBIR project is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services.

The One North Carolina Small Business Program, which was first launched back in 2005, helps match state funds with small business in North Carolina who have won federal awards from the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs (aka “America’s Seed Fund”). Together, the SBIR and STTR programs give out over $3.7 billion annually.
