A severe thunderstorm alert has just been issued for the greater Charlotte region.
According to the National Weather Service, ‘Damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes are possible.’
The areas at the greatest risk will be the north half of Charlotte and up. The storms are predicted to come in 2 waves, with the first starting sometime this afternoon and the second lasting into the late evening.
Two rounds of severe thunderstorms are possible across the region today. The first round will develop late afternoon through early evening, with the second round slated for mid to late evening. Duke Energy recommends having the following items handy in case of a power outage;
- Cash (ATMs may not work)
- Car charger for cell phones and other devices
- Clean drinking water (recommended 1 gallon per person per day, minimum three days)
- Flashlights
- Batteries: Extra batteries for all of your devices
- Weather radio/clock
- Non-perishable food
- First aid kit
