The Charlotte region is now under a severe storm warning for this afternoon and into the evening.
The National Weather Service just issued the following alert:
Scattered thunderstorms are expected across the western Carolina`s and northeast Georgia this afternoon to evening. A few of the storms will be strong to severe with small hail and damaging wind possible. Heavy rainfall with localized flooding will also be possible, especially this evening into tonight.
According to WeatherUnderground.com, the Charlotte area could be seeing the worst of the storm between 3 pm and 10 pm this evening;
Severe wind, hail, and flooding all have the potential to knock out power for entire neighborhoods.
Duke Energy recommends having the following items handy in case of a power outage;
- Cash (ATMs may not work)
- Car charger for cell phones and other devices
- Clean drinking water (recommended 1 gallon per person per day, minimum three days)
- Flashlights
- Batteries: Extra batteries for all of your devices
- Weather radio/clock
- Non-perishable food
- First aid kit
