Screamin’ Wheels and Blades Bringing Charlotte’s First ‘Pop-Up Skating Rink’ To University City

Screamin’ Wheels and Blades will host the first pop-up roller skating rink in the Queen City this spring. Families, friends and solo skaters will find the outdoor roller skating experience, Pop Up and Roll, in University City outside of Armored Cow Brewery on April 10 and 24. The events will offer a live DJ, contests to showcase skills, food and an opportunity to get up and move.

“I want to give people of all ages the fun and excitement of roller skating,” said Screamin’ Wheels and Blades CEO Carmen Scott. “With the state of the world today, we need an outlet to feel again. To live and laugh again! Screamin’ Wheels and Blades is that new experience.”

Screamin’ Wheels and Blades (SW&B) was established by Scott to bring the skating culture back to Charlotte. A long-time resident of the Queen City, Scott grew up skating on the weekends and aims to provide an opportunity for all generations to do the same. She will launch SW&B as pop-up events in the month of April, with long-term plans for opening a facility.

Advanced ticket sales begin March 10 on Eventbrite. All skaters must complete a waiver agreement online upon ticket purchase. The cost for Pop Up and Roll is $20 with skates and $25 without. Screamin’ Wheels and Blades will follow all COVID-19 safety precautions and masks are required to skate. A limited number of rental skates are available and visitors are encouraged to bring their own 4-wheel quad skates or roller blades. Skateboards are not permitted.

The event hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Parking is available at 8821 JW Clay Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28262.
