A No Swim Advisory has just been issued for Lake Wylie after a raw sewage spill contaminated part of the lake.
According to CharMeck Storm Water, visitors should avoid the Island Cove area around Island Point Drive and Woody Point Drive after a private sewer leak released wastewater into the water.
Officials warn the contamination could contain dangerous bacteria, including fecal coliform linked to illnesses such as E. coli infections.
Residents, swimmers, and pet owners are being urged to stay out of the affected water until testing confirms conditions are safe again.
Storm Water Services crews have already collected water samples from the area to test bacteria levels.
The advisory will remain in place until officials determine the water is safe
