Lionsgate is now turning the best selling book Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret into a full-length movie, and they are filling the entire production right here in Charlotte.

According to Deadline, Lionsgate studio “has committed to a green light on a film with a budget in the $30 million range.”

The book and soon-to-be movie tells the story of an 11-year-old girl named Margaret Simon in 6th grade. She creates a secret club with 3 of her friends where they talk about common issues related to liking boys, buying her first bra, and getting her first period. Much of the story also focuses on Margaret’s faith journey, including the experience of being raised in a home with a Christian mother and a Jewish father.

The studio is now seeking over 1,200 paid actors and extras around the Charlotte region to be filmed over the next few months.
