A major wreck occurred earlier this afternoon on I-85 South near Exit 27 in Belmont, NC.
Authorities have confirmed that there were at least 15 cars involved. It’s not yet known how many injuries there are.
Drivers are being told to use exit 30A (I-485 outer/south), continue down I-485 south to exit 9 (US-74 west) and proceed on US 74 West to get back on I-85.

All south-bound lanes were shut down for about 3 hours between about 2:30-5:30pm this afternoon.
Although police have re-opened some lanes, traffic is still moving extremely slow.
