It All Started in the Attic – Charlotte Sock Manufacturer Celebrates 10 Years

Boardroom Socks, a Charlotte-based manufacturer of premium men’s socks, is celebrating its 10th year in business. The family business was started in 2010 by husband and wife duo Mike and Carol James. After witnessing the closure of mills across the state, the couple sought to create a locally-made product line that represented North Carolina’s rich sock-making traditions.

In its early years, orders were packed and shipped from the James’ attic, with each pair of socks passing through Carol’s hands. While orders are no longer shipped from the James family’s home, the business has remained true to its roots: Mike and Carol’s son Nathan has joined the company and the socks continue to be produced in North Carolina.

Of the company’s tenth anniversary, Boardroom Socks President Nathan James said, “Achieving this milestone means a great deal to our family and our team. When my parents first started Boardroom Socks out of our attic, I thought they were a little crazy. At one point, we had 15,000 pairs of socks in our house! While we are still a small business, we are proud to be able to touch dozens of local jobs in our area and are excited for what the next decade has in store.”

Now in its tenth year, the company is planning to add a new line of casual socks while continuing to release additional colors and patterns in its dress sock offerings.
