A Gastonia woman has just died after being shot by police in her home on Monday.

According to the Gastonia Police Department, officers were responding to an overdose call off Mountain Avenue just after 12am on Monday. When officers arrived, they said they encountered a woman with a gun inside the residents, the woman was later identified as 33-year-old Shae Jones.

Jones was shot by Gastonia Officer K. Solano-Garita, then taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center where she was airlifted to Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte in critical condition.

Neighbors told FOX 46 Jones was generally quiet and said that she suffers from seizures. She was due to have brain surgery soon, the neighbors said.

Yesterday, her sister, Ashley Jones Matheson, confirmed on Facebook that her sister had passed away in the hospital, saying; “The Lord took my sister at 3:07 today. Her organs will be going help other people in need. Thanks for all the calls and prayers!”

Gastonia Officer K. Solano-Garita has now been placed on administrative leave with pay, per protocol, and the State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the shooting.
