Extreme Winds Blew Down Hickory’s Iconic 40-Ton Wooden Arches Last Night

Many around the Charlotte region witnessed some freakishly strong winds last night, with some gusts exceeding 55 mph, especially along I-40 between Hickory and Statesville.

One of the gusts was so strong, that it somehow managed to blow down Hickory’s newly constructed ‘Hickory City Walk‘ wooden arches.

The massive beams costs local residents $750,000 and weighed roughly 40 tons.

All traffic across the bridge is now blocked until the fallen arches can be removed.
