The founder of Epic Games (creators of Fortnite and the Unreal, Gears of War and Infinity Blade series) is about to make one of the largest private donations of conservatory land in North Carolina’s history.

CEO Tim Sweeney announced that he will be donating 7,500 acres of land he purchased in the Roan Highlands to the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy for the permanent protection.

The property includes the largest American Chestnut restoration project in the country, extensive boulder fields, rich coves, old growth forests, six waterfalls, and numerous rare plant and animal species, including some listed as federally endangered.

The massive section of land sits about halfway between Asheville and Boone, just south of the Tennessee border.
