Just weeks after joining the force, CMPD’s newest K9 Azra helped find one of the largest drug busts in the history of Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
CMPD announced that the 1-year-old black Labrador retriever assisted officers in seizing 350 pounds of suspected marijuana with an estimated street value of more than $700,000.
Police have not released additional details about where the suspected marijuana was discovered, whether anyone was arrested, or where the shipment was headed.
The Airport K9 Unit plays a key role in helping detect illegal drugs, explosives, and other contraband moving through one of the nation’s busiest airports.
Charlotte Douglas ranks among the busiest airports in the world, handling tens of millions of passengers and large volumes of cargo each year.
