656

According to a new report by 42Floors on the noisiest large and mid-sized U.S. cities, Charlotte has been found to be near the top.

The analysis ranks each entry’s performance across 12 metrics, which include: the number of annual operations at airports servicing a city; the amount of construction activity over the last five years, as well as the current development pipeline; population density; and the percentage of residents using motorized vehicles for their daily commute.

Here are some of the key highlights:

  • Charlotte ranks as the 7th noisiest mid-sized U.S. city mainly due to the scale and location of construction activity in the area.
  • Charlotte residents can expect to hear active construction noises in upcoming years as the city has 24,697 units of residential space in the pipeline – ranking 2nd for this metric.
  • The city also ranks 4th for having 3,702,073 square feet of industrial space in its current pipeline.
  • On the flip side, Charlotte has the 4th highest percentage of remote workers on the list (35%) having fewer people contributing to traffic congestion and noise on a daily basis.
  • Charlotte hosts a mere 2 music festivals per year, significantly reducing its contribution to noise pollution in comparison to the other cities among the top 10 like Las Vegas and Austin that host 10 such events each.
