Former American Idol legend Clay Aiken just threw his hat into the pollical ring and announced he is running for North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District seat.
The long-time Wake County resident made the announcement on Twitter, saying he wants to “deliver on needed progressive policies – from stopping climate change, systemic racism, income inequality and gun violence, to securing voting rights, free health care, and a woman’s right to choose.”
Can you believe it's been almost 20 years since I first got to share my voice with you? That's a long time. A LOT has changed!
We need powerful voices more than ever, so I'm running for Congress.
And my voice is even stronger now! 😉 #JoinTheChorushttps://t.co/aQIm8a2xuZ pic.twitter.com/xBtN2CYF30

43-year-old Aiken will now be running against State Senator Wiley Nickel, State Senator Valerie Foushee, Durham County Commissioner Nida Allam, and Virologist Richard Watkins to replace Representative David Price, who announced that he would be retiring this past October.
What do you think about Aiken’s new political campaign?
