Charlotte’s long wait for Wegmans is almost over, and the new Ballantyne store will offer much more than traditional groceries.
The popular supermarket will open its first Charlotte location at 9 a.m. Wednesday, October 14. The 110,000-square-foot store sits at 11550 North Community House Road.
Wegmans has developed a devoted following by combining a supermarket with restaurant-style food, specialty departments and extensive customer service.
Here are some of the biggest Ballantyne highlights:
- 110,000 square feet, making it considerably larger than many traditional supermarkets.
- A large Market Café with seating for 180 people, including 106 outdoor patio seats.
- Chef-prepared meals throughout the day, including sushi, pizza, salads, sandwiches and hot entrées.
- A Hot Bowls station featuring chef-developed meals with vegetables and 20 to 40 grams of protein.
- Fresh sushi and poke bowls made inside the store, including vegetable, cooked and raw selections.
- Large specialty departments for cheese, seafood, meat, bakery, deli and fresh produce.
- A substantial beer and wine department, designed to make the store a one-stop destination.
- Approximately 450 employees, including culinary workers and specialists across individual departments.
- One of America’s most recognized workplace cultures. Fortune ranked Wegmans No. 5 on its 2026 Best Companies to Work For list.
The Ballantyne location will also have 15 traditional registers and 23 self-checkout stations across the store and café. Parking will include 664 spaces.
Wegmans remains hiring ahead of opening day, including positions in its restaurant-food and specialty departments.
The company is also known for investing heavily in employees. Its scholarship program has awarded more than $155 million in tuition assistance since 1984.
The October opening marks the beginning of what could become a larger Charlotte expansion.
Wegmans is already planning to open 2 additional locations around the Charlotte area.
