A new hospital is planned for the fast-growing Lake Wylie area, bringing emergency and inpatient care closer to western York County. CaroMont Health has purchased land along Highway 557 and expects the facility to open in 2031.
The hospital would primarily serve Lake Wylie, Clover, western York County and southern Gaston County. CaroMont says the project will expand access to hospital-level care closer to where patients live.
“For more than two decades, families in York County have trusted our physicians for primary and urgent care and advanced specialties like cardiology and neurology,” said Chris Peek, President and Chief Executive Officer at CaroMont Health in a press release. “CaroMont Health has paced our service expansion with the growth of that community, and adding emergency and hospital care is a natural next step. We want to build a facility that fits the needs of our patients and offers more access to our broader network of care.”
CaroMont already operates several specialties in York County, including primary care, cardiology, pediatrics and urgent care.
The new hospital would add an emergency department staffed by board-certified physicians. Plans also include inpatient and observation beds, surgery, endoscopy, imaging and laboratory services.
CaroMont describes the project as a neighborhood hospital focused on common emergency and inpatient needs. Patients requiring more advanced care could transfer to CaroMont Regional Medical Center and the larger CaroMont network.
The Lake Wylie-area hospital is expected to open in 2031, expanding medical access across a rapidly growing part of the Charlotte region.
