An east Charlotte storage unit auction took an unexpected turn when the winning bidder reportedly discovered nearly 25 pounds of pure cocaine, with an estimated street value of $1.25 million, hidden among the contents.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the auction buyer called officers on Friday, Aug. 7, after finding what appeared to be packaged narcotics inside a recently purchased storage unit in east Charlotte.
Officers from CMPD’s Hickory Grove Division responded and launched an investigation that resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of suspected illegal drugs, including:
- Nearly 25 pounds of suspected cocaine
- More than 3 ounces of suspected methamphetamine
- Approximately 0.89 ounces of suspected fentanyl

Police have not announced any arrests, and investigators have not released details about who rented the storage unit or how the drugs ended up inside.
CMPD identified the location only as a storage facility within the Hickory Grove Division.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the source of the narcotics and identify anyone connected to the storage unit.
