Drivers traveling through York County should prepare for delays this week as the South Carolina Department of Transportation closes multiple lanes on Interstate 77 for major bridge repairs.
SCDOT announced that the two right lanes of southbound I-77 will be closed between mile markers 83 and 81.5 for several days while crews complete bridge deck repairs.
The closures begin this week and are scheduled to remain in place until 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5.
The work will focus on bridge deck patching for the interstate bridges over Highway 161 (Celanese Road) and Highway 21 (Cherry Road), two of Rock Hill’s busiest highway crossings.
Motorists should expect slower traffic through the construction zone, especially during the morning and evening commute, and are encouraged to allow extra travel time or consider alternate routes if possible.
SCDOT urges drivers to slow down, stay alert and use caution when traveling through the work zone to help protect both construction crews and fellow motorists.
