A serious crash has shut down a stretch of I 485 near University City. The accident involves two tractor-trailers, including a tanker truck, and multiple vehicles.
The crash occurred on the outer loop near Mallard Creek Road, Exit 28, blocking both the inner and outer loops. All lanes on the I-485 inner loop near Exit 26 and all lanes on the outer loop near Exit 28 are closed.
Charlotte Fire, CMPD, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol, are now on the scene.

Medic confirmed one person was airlifted in critical condition, but it’s unclear if anyone else was injured.
Lanes are expected to be closed until this afternoon.
