What cities are renters interested in this rental season?

According to the June Rental Activity Report, most of them are adding Midwestern cities to their wish lists, while plenty of apartment seekers are still longing for the warmer South.

The Charlotte rental market heats up: It claimed the 20th spot for its popularity among apartment hunters in June, emerging as a newcomer on our list after climbing a whopping 12 spots since last month. The Queen City is also the 2nd most sought-after renting spot in all of North Carolina and the 8th in the South.

Here’s why:

  • This month, renters added to their favorites almost five times more Charlotte apartments compared to last June(384% growth).
  • Saved personalized searches surged by 23%, while an increasing demand for rentals led to a 24% drop in available apartments year-over-year.
  • This month, renters found Charlotte more appealing than Greensboro (#30), Durham (#39), Cary (#48), Winston Salem (#62) and Fayetteville (#133). The #1 city in North Carolina where renters want to move in June is Raleigh, which landed on the 10th spot in the national ranking.
  • Nationwide, Kansas City, MO, is the most desired city by renters in June, the same as last month, with views of rentals doubling year-over-year and five times as many apartments added to favorites. Overland Park, KS, and Minneapolis came in second and third, respectively, according to RentCafe’s listings activity data.
