Uptown Charlotte Bracing for Today’s Protest Against MVP Pipeline

A protest is planned for Uptown Charlotte today and CMPD is warning employees at Bank of America to be aware and to avoid confrontation.

The group 350 Charlotte has joined with Appalachians Against Pipelines (AAP) to organize today’s the protest in Uptown Charlotte where they plan on marching around Bank of America and Wells Fargo buildings chanting: “Stop MVP!” “MVP: Wrong Then, Now, Forever!” “No Personal Savings to Climate Destruction!”, according to their website.

AAP has been engaged in a persistent direct action campaign to stop the Mountain Valley Pipeline since 2018. The MVP is a 42-inch fracked gas pipeline that stretches from the shale fields of so-called West Virginia through North Carolina. The group argues that the project will disrupt delicate ecosystems, harm communities, and increase international dependence on fossil fuels.
