The FBI is now investigating a South Carolina officer after a video was posted on Facebook that shows him throwing a female high school student out of her chair and across the room in the middle of a class;
The confrontation, captured on cellphone video at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, S.C., has drawn intense criticism on social media, from the school district’s Black Parents Association, and from the American Civil Liberties Union of South Carolina.
“There is no justification whatsoever for treating a child like this,” the ACLU said in a statement.
Officer Ben Fields, who is white, was also recently named as a defendant in a 2013 federal lawsuit that claims he “unfairly and recklessly targets African-American students with allegations of gang membership and criminal gang activity.”
These types of incidents are continuing to fuel many #BlackLivesMatter protests and demonstrations throughout America.
