Over 10,000 Duke Energy customers lost power this morning after a fire broke out at a substation in Matthews.
The fire started at around 8:30 this morning, according to the Stalling Fire Department.
Duke Energy spokesperson says a portable piece of equipment caught fire. They say the substation was not impacted. Crews are working to switch power from the portable system back to the main system. The thousands without power should have it back by 10:45 a.m. @Queen_City_News

Several street lights are out around the Matthews area, according to local police.

Duke Energy has now said they will be switching all affected residents over to another substation to restore power to the affected areas.
