2730

If you live anywhere near Lake Norman or the other nuclear power plants around the Charlotte region, don’t be alarmed if you hear a massive siren blast today.

Duke Energy has announced that they will be testing their emergency sirens today on the Catawba, McGuire, Oconee, Brunswick, Harris, and Robinson plants.

Here are the estimated times that the sirens will go off.

Here is a video clip of the siren that went off a few years ago:

The sirens are meant to be a warning signal to all residents in audible range to tune in to their local TV or radio stations for further information or instruction – the sirens are not meant to be an automatic evacuation alarm.
