How Technology Has Benefited Medical Marijuana

145

Marijuana has been used as a medicinal substance for the better part of human civilization. Historical evidence suggests it was first cultivated in Japan for hemp, and has been used since 8,000 BC. Many cultures around the world have consumed the herb or used it in rituals, such as the ancient Assyrians, Dacians, Thracians and Scythians.

It has been largely illegal around the world for many different reasons, but due to technological advancements, and the understanding that it is a medicinal substance, this plant has since been made legal once again.

The evidence for the need for this herb is in the success of the medical marijuana industry, which has played a vital role in the wellbeing of many around the world. Many methods of consumption have become available over the last few years, such as edibles, dry herb vaporizers and more. As a result, the market is populated by many physical and online stores, like MagicVaporizers, which sell not only dry herb vaporizers, but anything else needed that relates to marijuana. Here are a few ways in which technology has benefited medical marijuana.

Research

Prior to the legalization of medical marijuana in 1996, by California, research into exactly what the herb is and can do was very limited, and as a result, slow. Even after it was legalized for medical purposes, and then legalized for recreational purposes in 2012, by Colorado and Washington, research was difficult to do. This is because of the many federal laws that were still in effect, which still deem marijuana as an illegal substance.

However, due to technological advancements, we now have a clearer idea of exactly what marijuana is, and how it works. There’s no real difference between medical marijuana and normal marijuana, aside from the fact that medical marijuana is prescribed to treat various conditions. Some of those conditions include epilepsy, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, muscle spasms and much more.

The reason marijuana is so effective is because it relieves pain by reducing inflammation, by targeting pain receptors and blocking or interfering with the messages being sent to the brain. In addition to this, it also helps with anxiety and PTSD by changing the way your brain perceives threats.

Many methods of consumption

Over the years, the iconic and traditional way of consuming marijuana was to either roll it up in rolling paper, or consume it via a bong or a blunt, however, thanks to technology, there are now many more ways of consuming marijuana. These new methods have been brought on by a need to consume marijuana that didn’t involve combustion, or smoking it, which has been linked to various health risks.

One of the safest ways of consuming marijuana is through tinctures, which would be considered an oral delivery method. Tinctures are essentially a liquid cannabis extract with a certain amount of THC, usually highly concentrated which makes them quite potent, and are placed under the tongue.

Another method of consumption would be edibles, which are food or beverage items, such as cookies, brownies, gummies and such, that are infused with a high concentration of THC. Both methods require the THC to be either absorbed into the body or digested, respectively.

Dry herb vaporizers

Dry herb vaporizers are the pinnacle of marijuana technology, and are the most common and popular method of consumption available at the moment. These dry herb vaporizers are devices that use heat to evaporate the marijuana, without using combustion. There are two main methods of heating that dry herb vaporizers use, one is conduction and the other is convection.

The conduction method transfers heat to the marijuana, in a manner similar to that of a frying pan, and the convection method circulates hot air around the marijuana, like an oven, until it evaporates. Both of these heating methods avoid using combustion, which is what makes dry herb vaporizers a healthy alternative to smoking. This is because combustion creates smoke, as well as harmful toxins and carcinogens which are inhaled, along with burning paper. Vaporizing the marijuana doesn’t create these carcinogens and toxins.

A dry herb vaporizer usually consists of just a few parts, namely; a mouthpiece, which is where the vapor created from the vaporization of the marijuana is drawn, as well as a battery and a chamber to hold the herb. Some devices have bigger batteries and chambers than others, but each handheld dry herb vaporizer basically works the same way.
