This morning NC Governor Roy Cooper signed House Bill 347 into law, officially legalizing sports betting throughout our state.
The bill is officially titled:
“AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE AND REGULATE WAGERING ON PROFESSIONAL,
COLLEGE, AND AMATEUR SPORTS AND ON HORSE RACING IN NORTH
CAROLINA, AND TO AUTHORIZE LIVE HORSE RACING IN NORTH CAROLINA.”
The new law legalizes monetary wages to be placed on the outcome of both professional and college sporting events online and in person at places like the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Quail Hollow Country Club, Spectrum Center, and even the Bank of America Stadium in Uptown.
Cooper signed the bill at about 11am this morning at the Spectrum Center after which he said, “we now have sports betting in North Carolina”.

According to the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance, “at least 35 states across the country are allowing sports wagering and realizing the economic benefits. Two Southeastern states, Virginia and Tennessee, have seen more than $140 million in tax revenue since enacting policies to allow sports wagering.”
The bill will officially take effect on Jan. 8, 2024, allowing for betting on several games in the upcoming Panthers season. There are many North Carolina sportsbooks already being prepared, so everyone interested will be able to take part very soon.
