Charlotte Police Now Warning Residents About A New Door-To-Door Scam

door-to-door-charity-scamMost people are leery of men and women coming to their door trying to sell things, but children are usually a different story.

A new scam ring is now spreading through Charlotte involving door to door children selling popcorn, cookie, and candy sets. They use fake organizational names and phone numbers, and once they are paid, they are never heard from again.

After receiving a number of similar complains, CMPD issued an official warning to all Charlotte residents about the new trend.

Most of the victims told police they thought they were helping local schools, only to find out that it was all a lie.

Police don’t yet know who is organizing these new charity scams. They’re now telling people to verify any charity that comes to your door before giving them money – or to make sure to receive your product before giving the person any money.

If you have any information about these scams, of if you’ve had it happen to you, please call Charlotte Crimestoppers at (704) 334-1600.
