ArtPop Street Gallery, a 501(c)(3) organization that gives communities across the country greater access to art, has announced its class of 2021 artists which can be found here. The 20 artists, which include 19 adults and one Senior high school student, represent diverse backgrounds, art expressions, and home communities across the greater Charlotte area.
“We are thrilled to welcome another incredibly talented class into the #ArtPopCLT program,” said Wendy Hickey, Founder and Executive Director of ArtPop Street Gallery. “Now, more than ever, people are turning to the arts during these unprecedented times and we are honored to continue coloring the city with local artwork. None of this would be possible without the generous support of the community, donors and our partners.”
ArtPop Charlotte’s class of 2021 now makes 147 artists who have been juried into #ArtPopCLT since 2014 and includes three 2017 #ArtPopCLT alumnae. The three returning artists are Joanna Henry, Caroline Rust and Kenny Nguyen. Gaston Day School senior, Katherine Heilig, joins the #ArtPopCLT class of 2021 where her artwork will be displayed across the city and she will receive a modest scholarship to pursue an arts degree in college. The class of 2021’s artwork covers a wide range of mediums and subject matters, adding up to a truly diverse and exceptionally talented class.
In addition to the $3.3 million in advertising space, each artist is provided the opportunity to attend Artists U. Artists U is an incubator for changing the working conditions of artists, teaching basic business best practices for artists.
The exhibits are provided through the generosity of Adam Outdoor Advertising, Center City Partners and Awedience Media. The artwork will be displayed on billboards that span across Charlotte area highways, newsstands in Uptown Charlotte and mixed-use development digital displays as wells as digital displays at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
