The largest manufacturing project in North Carolina history is officially underway.

JetZero has just broken ground on their $4.7 billion 8 million-square-foot advanced manufacturing campus that’s expected to create over 14,500 jobs on the main campus alone.

The massive facility will span more than 600 acres and serve as the production home for JetZero’s next-generation Z4 ‘blended-wing’ aircraft, an innovative all-wing jet designed to dramatically reduce fuel consumption – the first commercial airplane of its kind.

The Z4 will carry up to 250 passengers and fly up to 5,000 nautical miles while using up to 50% less fuel than traditional aircraft. The company is also developing military versions, including aerial refueling and transport aircraft.

“Today, a great new chapter in North Carolina’s storied history of flight is taking off,” said Governor Josh Stein in a press release. “JetZero’s decision to build here is a vote of confidence in North Carolina’s workforce, our universities and community colleges, and our long aerospace tradition. These 14,500 jobs and $4.7 billion in investment will transform the triad region for generations. North Carolina is not only First in Flight, we are the future of flight, too.”

JetZero says the Greensboro campus will become one of the most advanced aerospace factories in the world.

Working with Siemens and Deloitte, the company is building a complete digital twin of the facility using AI-powered technology. Engineers can test factory operations virtually before equipment is installed, improving efficiency and reducing costs.

Construction is now underway, with hiring expected to increase in phases as production expands over the next decade.

The groundbreaking comes just weeks before America’s 250th birthday and represents a major investment in the future of U.S. aviation manufacturing.
