Levine Museum of the New South Inspires Action with New #ShapingCLT Series

Levine Museum of the New South today announced a new series of programs for 2018-19 called #ShapingCLT, a solutions-oriented interactive show aimed at vanquishing apathy. Hosted by Davita Galloway of Dupp&Swat and presented by Bank of America, this year-long series inspires action through discussion of pressing issues, possible solutions and a do-it-yourself social-change toolkit.

“Levine Museum is known for convening members of our community in dialogue to build understanding around challenging issues,” says Kathryn Hill, President and CEO of Levine Museum of the New South. “#ShapingCLT takes that tradition a step further, using history to explore multiple perspectives through dialogue and to inspire community members to take action in shaping a stronger, more equitable Charlotte.”

Kicking off with “Unpacking Privilege” in September, speakers will include Janeen Bryant, Community Engagement Specialist, and Kevin Poirier, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools teacher and activist. Subsequent programs will feature Brandi Williams of the City of Charlotte and Ash Williams of UNC Charlotte’s Urban Institute who will speak about “A Healthy City” and “Evicted,” respectively.

“Having an open dialogue on topics critical to Charlotte provides an opportunity to understand the different perspectives and experiences of our community,” said Charles Bowman, Charlotte and North Carolina Market President for Bank of America. “Together, we can create constructive solutions to help Charlotte move forward.”

#ShapingCLT takes place one Wednesday per month from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Levine Museum of the New South. Tickets are $10 for non-members and include the program, light bites and a cash bar. Space is limited and registration is required. The dates for the upcoming season are as follows:

·       Sept. 12, 2018 – Unpacking Privilege

·       Oct. 24, 2018 – A Healthy City

·       Nov. 14, 2018 – Evicted

·       Jan. 23, 2019

·       Feb. 20, 2019

·       March 20, 2019

·       April 24, 2019

·       May 22, 2019

·       June 12, 2019
