Charlotte is about to serve as the home base for the legendary Scottish National Soccer team during this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
Scotland head coach Steve Clarke confirmed to the Scottish Sun that the team will train at Charlotte FC’s complex throughout the tournament. From there, the squad will travel to group stage matches in Boston and Miami against Haiti, Morocco, and Brazil.
Clarke said the facilities are ‘world class’, offering a strong city environment without overwhelming distractions and praised the quality of the training setup.
The complex features eight pitches, including five full grass fields, one full turf field, and a hybrid grass-turf surface. Players will also use modern locker rooms, a nutrition-focused cafeteria with an outdoor patio, and a 2,800-square-foot weight room.
The tournament runs from June 11 through July 19. While North Carolina is not hosting games, multiple international teams are choosing the state for training camps.
Germany will train at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem and stay at the Graylyn Estate. Norway, led by Manchester City star Erling Haaland, will be based in Greensboro.
Even without hosting matches, Charlotte’s role as Scotland’s World Cup headquarters places the city at the center of the tournament’s preparation stage this summer.
