After videos showed groups of teens blocking traffic and causing chaos Saturday night, Birkdale Village is now banning unaccompanied minors after 6 p.m. starting this Friday.

The new rule follows disturbances at the popular Huntersville shopping center where children and teenagers were filmed in massive crowds causing chaos. The incidents quickly spread online and prompted swift action from property management.

Under the new policy, minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during evening hours.

The Huntersville Police Department has previously coordinated with Birkdale Village to manage similar issues. Officers increased patrols during the holiday season to address problems involving unaccompanied minors.

Police and property managers say they will continue monitoring the area as the new policy takes effect. One local official plans to revisit the shopping center this weekend to evaluate whether conditions have improved.
