The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) just announced they have thwarted a terrorist attack planned for New Year’s Eve in North Carolina, arresting a Mint Hill teenager who they say was inspired by ISIS ideology.

According to investigators, 18-year-old Christian Sturdivant planned to attack people at a grocery store and a fast-food restaurant using knives and hammers. Authorities allege the planned violence was inspired by ISIS propaganda.
Court records show the FBI received a tip on Dec. 18 that Sturdivant was posting pro-ISIS and extremist content on social media. Investigators said he communicated earlier with an undercover FBI agent online.
On Dec. 12, Sturdivant allegedly told the covert agent that he “will do jihad soon” and described himself as a “soldier of the state,” according to federal filings. He also sent an image of two hammers and a knife, claiming he planned to buy a firearm.
Authorities executed a search warrant at Sturdivant’s home on Dec. 29. During the search, agents found handwritten notes, including one titled “New Years Attack 2026.”
The documents allegedly outlined plans to wear tactical gear and stab as many as 20 to 21 people before dying as a martyr. Investigators also recovered listed items such as a vest, mask, tactical gloves, and knives.
Sturdivant was arrested and charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. He remains in federal custody as the investigation continues.
