CMPD is touting a recent SouthPark Mall crime sweep as a major victory in the fight against organized retail theft, highlighting what officials described as a “major operation” led by the department’s Organized Retail Crime Unit.

More than 30 officers from multiple divisions — along with agents from the State Bureau of Investigation — converged on SouthPark for a coordinated enforcement effort. CMPD promoted the operation as a major show of force designed to disrupt growing retail crime trends.

At the conclusion of the operation, officers had four arrests, including three suspects charged with misdemeanor larceny and one charged with felony habitual larceny. They also recovered approximately $3,500 in stolen merchandise from several stores inside the mall.
