A significant outage disrupted AT&T’s cellular service across the U.S. on Thursday, leaving hundreds of thousands of US residents unable to make calls, send texts, or use the internet.
According to Downdetector, over 65,000 AT&T customers faced issues starting around 3:30 am this morning. The outage also affected over 100,000 additional Cricket, Verizon, T-Mobile, Boost Mobile, US Cellular, and Google customers to varying extents.
Despite the widespread disruption, customers retained access to emergency services through “SOS mode.” Officials are also recommending that customers text 911 instead of calling 911 in case of an emergency.
Social media platforms, especially Twitter, have been flooded with discussions on the outage, with some users speculating about a cyberattack, although no evidence supports this theory.
