Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium is officially moving into the first phase of an $800 million renovation now that zoning documents have been finalized.
The project, approved by Charlotte City Council last June, ties the Carolina Panthers to the city through 2045. Fifteen months after the council pledged $650 million toward the overhaul, zoning and permitting work has now been completed, clearing the way for construction.
Under the agreement, the city will contribute $650 million using existing hospitality and tourism tax revenue, which by state law must fund projects tied to tourism. Panthers owner David Tepper will cover $150 million upfront and has committed to more than $421 million in potential overages for long-term improvements.
Tepper has already invested $117 million in upgrades since acquiring the team. Planned renovations will modernize the 29-year-old stadium, expand amenities, and enhance the fan experience, while ensuring the NFL franchise remains in Charlotte for the next two decades.
