The National Weather Service has just issued a winter weather advisory for the greater Charlotte region as bitter cold grips the Carolinas.

Snow flurries this afternoon and evening could bring a trace to an inch of accumulation to the city. Areas north and west of I-85 may see a dusting, while an inch is possible south of 485.

Untreated roads could become slick as snow winds down tonight. Drivers should use caution during late travel.

Overnight, skies will clear, and temperatures will drop sharply. Lows will reach single digits in the mountains and teens across the Charlotte area. Wind chills could fall to seven degrees by Wednesday morning in Charlotte may drop to 20 below zero in the mountains.

Thursday starts cloudy but turns sunny by afternoon, with highs again in the low 30s. Things will start to warm up Friday and into the weekend.
