West Charlotte High School’s football team celebrated its first state championship in nearly three decades with a 14-7 victory over Fayetteville Seventy-First in the NCHSAA 3A state title game.
The Lions, led by sophomore quarterback Jamouri Nichols, ended the season with a 13-2 record. Nichols, named MVP of the title game, completed 12-of-13 passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
West Charlotte’s defense held strong after tying at 7-7 in the second quarter. The decisive score came in the fourth quarter with a 10-yard pass from Nichols to Donte Nicholson.

Despite having only 10 seniors and 37 underclassmen, the Lions showed resilience throughout the season under Coach Sam Greiner, who has had three winning seasons since taking over in 2021.
