Visit Lake Norman (VLN) was honored with two awards for exceptional achievement in destination marketing at the recent North Carolina Tourism Leadership Conference. The awards invite the 100 counties in North Carolina to submit and recognize the best in the state for marketing efforts in the travel and tourism industry. The award selection committee is comprised of peers from North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia industry affiliates.
The awards presented were for marketing initiatives implemented between July 2018 and June 2019. VLN received a Platinum award in the Meetings & Convention category for success in VLN’s meetings and special events venue guide. As well as a Gold award in the Community Stakeholders category for VLN’s ambassador and internship program. VLN recruits ambassadors and interns to work in the visitor center and promote the area’s attractions.
“Our ambassadors and interns are such a critical part of the Visit Lake Norman staff. They act as the front-line to our most vital audience, the visitor,” said Sally Ashworth, Executive Director of Visit Lake Norman. “I enjoy coming here each day. I love what I do here and we work as a team. It feels good to be able to help visitors with information and assure them of what a nice area we have,” said Kathy Bowman, ambassador of 14 years.
Interns are also able to gain valuable experience through their work on marketing initiatives. Creating an outstanding workplace environment with mutual gain for all parties involved is what propels this program to excellence. Overall feedback from interns stated how they looked forward to coming to the internship, the work assigned was meaningful, and enjoyed seeing assignments come into fruition.
