A free, on-demand ride service called “SouthPark Skipper” will soon launch a one-year pilot to offer free rides around the area.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to make SouthPark a “park-once” community, encouraging residents to explore by bike, foot, or electric cars through the Freebee app.
Operating daily from 9 am to 9 pm, starting on Nov. 15th, the service will cover rides within the area’s municipal district.
SouthPark Community Partners will invest $465,000 this year in the project, which aligns with its 2035 Vision Plan. Similar microtransit systems are gaining traction in other Charlotte neighborhoods, offering eco-friendly transport options and reducing dependency on personal vehicles.
So excited to launch free, on-demand microtransit service in the SouthPark district starting Nov. 15. This program fulfills a commitment made in our SouthPark Forward 2035 Vision Plan and is a big step toward the community’s vision for a more connected neighborhood. pic.twitter.com/6Xi42RuWWc
