Over 30,000 Duke Energy customers in the Carolinas woke up without power early Monday after this weekend’s sprawling winter storm. Duke’s outage map showed the hardest-hit areas were in the mountains and foothills of North Carolina and South Carolina.

By 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, Duke Energy outages stood at about 33,000. Charlotte largely avoided mass outages, with only a few thousand customers affected, mainly in areas southwest of Uptown.

Ice remained the main concern because it can drop limbs onto lines and damage equipment. Meanwhile, wintry precipitation ended overnight, but lingering cold could slow melting and keep slick spots around.

Duke Energy also points customers to outage maps for other utilities across the Carolinas through its outage resources page.
