OMB Moving Forward on 3rd Location Along Catawba River – OMB Water Works

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery has just restarted construction on its long-delayed 3rd location in Mount Holly, which will officially be named OMB Water Works.

The project centers on the former Mount Holly water treatment plant on Elm Street. Plans call for a full taproom, a brewery, and a half-acre beer garden overlooking the Catawba River where Dutchmans Creek meets the waterway.

Mount Holly first listed the 1.75-acre property in 2021 for $350,000, aiming to attract a brewery, restaurant or distillery. The city later approved a $200,000 sale to OMB, with the company planning a total investment of $4.3 million in the development.

Construction plans also include a warehouse designed to store raw materials and blend visually with the historic site. OMB is working with the city to connect the project directly to River Street Park, the Duke Energy kayak launch, and the Mount Holly Greenway, which will eventually link to the greenway stretching from Mountain Island Park.

OMB hopes to open Water Works in the coming months, bringing a new regional destination to the Catawba River’s edge.
