A no swim advisory has been issued for a section of Lake Norman following a sewage spill in Cornelius, officials just announced.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services, approximately 120 gallons of sewage entered the lake from 18603 Harborside Drive. Crews responded quickly to contain the spill and began water testing in the affected area.
The advisory will remain in place until bacteria levels return to safe standards. Staff will continue to monitor water quality and update the public once conditions are deemed suitable for human contact.
Officials urge residents and visitors to avoid swimming in the impacted area of Lake Norman until further notice.
