New NC Law Requires All Public School Students To Undergo Annual Mental Health Screenings

As student suicides, threats, attacks, and other mental health issues increase around our state, a new law is attempting to address the issue with an influx of $91 million into hiring new mental health professionals.

According to newly signed House Bill 75, all public school students across our state will now be required to undergo annual mental health screenings.

The new law also requires each local school district to create a comprehensive ‘mental health crisis response plan’, to include the SBI, local law enforcement, and school administrators, in an attempt to identify students who may pose a threat to themselves or others.
