The NC State Wolfpack just defeated Georgia 8-5 in Game 3 of the Athens Super Regional at Foley Field. This victory secures NC State’s second trip to the College World Series in four years.
The win also makes NC State the first school in history to make a bowl game in football, the men’s Final Four, women’s Final Four, and the College World Series in the same academic year.

NC State took the lead in the fourth inning when Matt Heavner scored on a wild pitch, making it 3-2. Alec Makarewicz extended the lead with an RBI single. Alex Sosa’s third hit of the game in the seventh inning made it 6-3.
Georgia had two on with no outs in the seventh, but Serrano’s catch preserved the lead. NC State’s reliever Derrick Smith got Tre Phelps to pop up, ending the inning. Makarewicz added NC State’s 16th home run in the eighth for an 8-4 lead.
Georgia’s Charlie Condon hit his nation-leading 37th home run in the ninth, but Smith secured the win and his eighth save. Georgia starter Zach Harris allowed three runs in three innings, taking the loss.
NC State now joins Florida State, Virginia, and UNC in the College World Series – all four ACC teams in the tournament.
