A major new drone manufacturing plant just opened in South Carolina, expanding the region’s role in national defense production.

Maher Advanced Manufacturing has opened a 40,600-square-foot facility in Greenville, focused on drone research and development. The site will support manufacturing solutions for unmanned aerial vehicles and other aerospace systems.

Company officials say the facility will help drive down the cost of drone and munition technology used by the U.S. military. The operation will focus on producing low-cost unmanned aircraft, including drones and loitering munitions.

Demand for these systems has surged in recent years, especially as countries like Iran and Ukraine have rapidly expanded the use of inexpensive, disposable weapons in modern conflicts.

The new South Carolina site is expected to strengthen the supply chain for the U.S. Department of Defense by producing critical components needed for defense operations.

The new facility is expected to further position South Carolina as a key hub for advanced manufacturing tied to national defense, while supporting innovation in next-generation aerospace technologies.
