Japanese restaurant Uchi, from James Beard Award-winning chef Tyson Cole, just announced plans to open their first North Carolina location in Plaza Midwood.
The Charlotte outpost will be part of a new mixed-use development at Central and Pecan Avenues. The new development will also feature VanLeeuwen Ice Cream, The Salty Donut, Solid Core, Lucchese, and Yonder Yoga.
Uchi, meaning “house” in Japanese, will offer a non-traditional approach to Japanese cuisine with Cole’s signature tastings, sushi, and a seasonal omakase.

The James Beard award-winning restaurant first launched in a refurbished Austin bungalow in 2003. They soon expanded to locations in Denver, Miami, Scottsdale, and West Hollywood. This will be its first location in the South East.
Uchi’s new Charlotte location is currently slated to open late 2025.
