Hurricane Dorian is now moving away from North Carolina, but its devastation will likely remain for months to come. In addition to flooded homes, businesses, and personal property, the storm has utterly destroyed several roads.
According to a press release by NCDOT, “Access to Hatteras Island remains closed until further notice. This includes all areas south of Oregon Inlet including the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco, and Hatteras Village. NCDOT continues efforts to clear the roads of sand and water, and make repairs as necessary. A checkpoint has been established to restrict entry to Hatteras Island.”
Yesterday afternoon, the NCDOT posted a shocking photo of what the hurricane did to NC12 heading into Hatteras Island;
For all areas north of Oregon Inlet, the state will begin allowing ‘Permanent Residents & Essential Personnel for Critical Businesses’ into the area starting at noon today.
